First I turned down a marriage proposal, then I moved to Annapolis to open a law firm. I thought my world couldn’t change anymore…
Until Cade stepped into my office, smelling of sawdust with his company’s T-shirt stretched taut over his chest and biceps. Everything about him was sexy-as-sin and completely off-limits.
But I can’t risk the business I sunk my savings into by dating a client, and he won’t risk his heart.
The more we spend time together, the more I want him. Even if a relationship between us was possible, how can he give me all of him?
After my wife died, I swore off dating. I threw myself into my charity instead. It was easy at first, but I can’t ignore my attraction anymore.
Hadley comes from a wealthy family that operates with manipulation, lies, and deceit. I don’t fit into her world, but the closer we get, the more I wanted to show her how things could be different.
I never thought I’d meet someone who gave me hope for the future. One full of possibilities, love, and maybe even marriage and kids.
But how can I promise her forever when I know love doesn’t last?

This was a new kind of love after death story for me. I have seen and read books about husbands moving on after their wives passed away. But in those they kids of fill the hole in their heart by sleeping with anything and everything and then falling for a one night stand that just keeps popping up after the fact.
This is a chance meeting that turns into more, the instant connection, and a mild instant love. The timeline of the story and the timeline of their relationship kind of feels like instant love, on a widow who has been alone too long and finally opening his heart to the new girl in town I like Cade and how he goes from this surely crazy bear of a man to this man who is open to love and wants to stand up for those who can’t and wants to protect those he loves.
There was a lot to be desired in Hadley as she was used to being stepped all over by her dad since her mother passed away many years before. But she only sees the light when the man she was dating pops the question in a very public way. That is when she sees this is not her life and not what she wants in her life, then she meets this man while starting over, well almost the day she starts over…
I don’t know, I love their story and the connection they share but I feel like she was not sure enough in herself as a person to really jump into anything. But that is my thought.
I do recommend this book to anyone who loves instant love stories disguised as a slower burn.
